Kelly Gotschalk
"Connectivity"
mixed media
"Once I got the initial idea and started working, I began thinking about the wider picture of connectivity in all its forms - person to person, group to group, country to country, etc., and all the different ways that we are connected and networked – biologically, environmentally, electronically, and financially, to name a few. The piece is very much influenced by the current climate of the world and is a direct reflection of my own anxiety and my hope. The tree, as presented, is in a state of winter, but it is from winter that spring always arrives."
Kelly Gotschalk served on the Board of Directos of 1708 Gallery for 2.5 years and left when she relocated to the west coast for a few years.
She was instrumental in the creation and production of the early years of 1708's Wearable Art.
She has presented solo shows of her sculpture at ArtSpace, Virginia State University, Collegiate School and Astra Design. Kelly has a BFA in Sculpture from Virginia Commonwealth University and an MA in Art History. She has worked for a number of years as an artist in residence in public schools throughout Virginia, a traveling artist with the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and in more recent years as the Assistant Director of Development for the VCU School of Nursing.
